Norrsken on the Marshes

Norrsken is Swedish for ‘northern glow’. Northern Lights in English. Aurora borealis in latin. As the sun reaches its eleven year solar maxima zenith, coronal mass ejections (CMEs) are increasingly spewed Earthward generating intense geomagentic storms in the upper atmosphere which we see as the hauntingly beautiful nocturnal light displays of shimmering reds and greens (excited atomic oxygen). Carlton Marshes - to the west of Lowestoft in NE Suffolk - provides the perfect dark skies to capture these ephemeral cosmic events. Further displays at these latitudes are expected in the coming months; don’t delay in getting to a dark place when the alert goes red!
